Lightbulb Facts about JRA

  • Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) is the most common forms of arthritis in children. It is also called juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA).
  • Arthritis is best described by four major changes in the joints that may develop. The most common features of JRA are: joint inflammation, joint contracture (stiff, bent joint), joint damage and/or alteration or change in growth.
  • The signs and symptoms of JRA vary from child to child,so it's an important fact for parents, caretakers and teachers to keep in mind when working with children who have JRA.
  • Be aware that you as parents, siblings and other family members may also have troubling feelings about the disease and its effect on the family. Learning how to cope with arthritis will benefit everyone.
Children may overidentify with the brother or sister with special needs. Some feel a pressure to achieve or make up for what their sibling can no longer do.It is common for teenagers to stop wanting to take their medications. Open discussions about this issue can prevent flare-ups due to medication non-compliance
Try to help and find other ways to deal with their feelings. Whenever possible, encourage siblings to talk with peers who live in homes with similar concerns.Listen to ur child how she think and behave about her illness, allow her to express her feelings.
Never under-estimate the benefits of being a good listner.
Good luck parents.and make it possible what ur children can't do.
